I think that argument fails for the reasons I gave in the article, but it’s different from your point as he’s not technically arguing ignorance of the law. He’s arguing that a necessary element for a conspiracy to defraud charge to stick - knowledge that he was engaging in a fraudulent scheme - is not met here.
