Three years of law school kicked my ass. Instead of treasure at the end of the expensive rainbow, I received unemployment. And I paid for the rainbow on borrowed money.

Unconstructed boxes littered my bedroom. My Philadelphia apartment was almost packed, at least my half of it. I had shared this two bedroom apartment with my law school roommate Tommy for the past year through graduation and the bar exam summer. My six figure diploma taunted me atop a pile of papers:

“The President and Fellows of Worthington College, acting on the recommendation of the Faculty of Worthington School of Law and with the consent of the Honorable and Reverend the Board of Overseers, have conferred on Henry W. Parsons the degree of Juris Doctor.”

I hated when people use my full name. It is so goddamn formal. Everyone calls me Hank, and yes, you’re correct to notice that I did not graduate with honors. “Thank you laude” for Mr. Parsons. Thank you for providing us…
