I'm not trying to say that reciprocity is "essential", but it should be a consideration, especially when it relates to national security concerns. If America doesn't get a view into China through its tech firms, not sure why China deserves a free pass into America, especially when American companies have created viably alternative products.
I think the TikTok ban passed with overwhelming support because of the national security risks House/Senate members were likely briefed on early and often. Few other drivers could band so many people together so quickly.
With that said, I still think it's legally problematic and time will tell whether TikTok can prevail in U.S. courts (I think it has a good shot).
