Multiple people commented that losing anonymity online was a bad idea. I don’t agree and tend to agree more with the points you made here, including KYC which I advocated for based on the banking model.

But there probably need to be instances where anonymity is required online. You could become a target of oppressive, authoritarian regimes, for example, if you advocate for civil liberties without anonymity. If you’re a reporter operating in a war zone you might also need it. But those instances should be few and far between. And they’re far outweighed by the negative consequences of anonymity and bots polluting discourse and information online.
