I would agree that one political party has been completely consumed by an alternative reality and post-truth, but the other largely has not (although they have their own problems as noted in the essay). In addition, many civil servants keep the government working, and the courts mostly do a good job of sticking to facts and law, not the alternative reality I mentioned (see trump’s failed election challenges, his felony convictions, and fraud and sexual abuse cases).

America is close to a post-truth society, but thankfully we have enough guardrails (for now) that protect us. But we’re close. Hence the need to be vigilant at thwarting extremism anywhere and everywhere.
