1) Abraham Lincoln - not only was he steadfast in his belief for democracy, equality, and justice while the world around him pressured him to think otherwise, he was magnanimous towards his rivals in very practical ways, building an all-star cabinet that was able to effectively meet the demands of a country at civil war. Lincoln may be a cliche choice, but his fortitude in the face of anti-democratic forces is very relevant to the present.

2) Yes, if you look at most of my writing on this platform, you'll see that I draw on historical events when analyzing the present. We can learn so much from the past. Context is crucial and unfortunately it's not valued as much today as it should be, so I'm happy to find a publication like this one that can help change that!
