First, I had no idea older Gen Z had MySpace!? I thought that was gone by the time anyone born after 1995ish came of age.

Second, in response to your first question, I think it has to do with money. Negative stories — potentially filled with misinformation — simply get more engagement and ad $ than positive, objective, and factually-based articles. That’s why Ben Shapiro’s The Daily Wire outperforms conventional media on the platform like NBC, NY Times, etc. Facebook is too much of a revenue generating machine with this model and there’s no incentive for them to change unless regulators and the public force them to.

In response to your second question, I’m not sure fixing the proliferation of misinformation fixes the old people problem. You tell me as a member of Gen Z, but based on what I’ve heard and read, most people in your generation (and certainly in my Millennial generation) find Facebook uncool and unsexy. Something more would have to be done to attract younger users, which is why I highlighted short form video in my article.
