Discovering Sam Kolder

My new inspiration is not a writer or politician

Most of my inspiration comes from great writers or influential politicians. The George Orwells of the world. Fierce politicans like Fani Willis.

People who fight to shape our society for the better.

As I started making travel videos, however, I came across Sam Kolder.

This Canadian filmmaker blew me away with his style and flair. Videos like Hey Tim not only tell a story, they almost distort reality, forcing the viewer to see and think about the world differently.

Kolder’s travel videos are not what you might think. They are unconventional, largely devoid of itineraries, reviews, and dialogue. You won’t find a top 10 or must see listicle filled with food porn.

What you will find is action. Extreme sports. Intense drone footage. Music that syncs perfectly to the place and cadence of the footage.

Not to mention awe-inspiring transitions that question the reality of a place itself.

Instead of telling his audience how to explore, he shows them how he explored, celebrating a location’s beauty and encouraging everyone to live life to its fullest.

Get out in the bush. Immerse yourself in nature. Nothing is impossible if you can…
