As I tried to get at in my essay - as a "coastal elite" in NYC - we all need to check our privilege.

I made nonstop "democracy is at risk" arguments, as did many others. And they failed. We must be honest with ourselves - they failed miserably to resonate with a large swatch of the country that prioritize practicality (and understandably so) over amorphous concepts like democracy.

We need to spend more time talking to each other and check our privilege in the meantime.
